Canada is delighted to host the
38th International Geological Congress
12-20 August 2028, in the BMO Centre, Calgary
Geosciences for Humanity
The International Geological Congress (IGC) is the premier conference for the advancement of global Earth Science. It takes place every four years in a major city, attracting > 6,000 geoscientists from across the globe - akin to hosting the Olympics for Earth Sciences. Canada is preparing a bid to host the 38th IGC event in Calgary, in 2028, with a proposed theme “Geosciences for Humanity”.
The history of the Earth, from its infancy 4.6 billion years ago to the present day, is captured across North America. Against this backdrop, we will explore our human environment, climate drivers, resources essential for modern-day life, mitigation of natural disasters, corporate social responsibilities and Indigenous reconciliation.
Thank you for voting for us to host IGC in 2028 at this year’s IGC in Busan!
We look forward to welcoming you in 2028.
